Geometric Dance Party

I animated and designed this video in After Effects Kickstart, a course with School of Motion. The objective was to explore design principles and elements, and make simple shapes dance to a track of your choosing. We were encouraged to get inspired and create a board to guide our choices in our project.

PROCESS

The physicality of moving geometric shapes reminded me of the 90s. I also liked the idea of telling the story of 2 circles. The 90s provided a bright color palette, and I built a board of some possible directions to head into when following 2 circles through the story. Could it be a yo-yo? A hula hoop? A cassette tape?

From the board, I narrowed down the story to move from yo-yos, to a cassette, to reuniting with fellow circles in a gumball machine.
